Changing the internal energy of a material will cause it to change temperature or change state: the energy required for a particular change in temperature is given by the specific heat capacity . the energy required for a particular change in state is given by the specific latent heat .

Specific heat capacity is the heat required to raise the temperature of unit mass of a substance by 1°C(1K). ... Latent heat of the substance is the heat required to change the phase of the substance without any change in thetemperature.

The specific heat capacity of a material is written in the form of-

Q = mc(delta T)
Q = energy in / or out of the material in J
m = mass of the material in kg
c = the specific heat capacity of the material in J kg^-1 K^-1
DT = change in temperature in kelvin

The latent heat is written as-

Q = ml
Q = = energy in / or out of the material in J
m = mass of the material which has changed statein kg
L= thelatent heat in J kg^-1

So the relation is as follows-

l =c (delta T)
