Changing a mentor during initial phase is appreciable if you are not comfortable studying with them. If you are changing the mentor after a good period of time then it is quite hard for you to understand things from different mentor.
As you have mentioned that your mentor is lazy and skips classes. See, it is no doubt a big issues for sure and you definitely need to work for this.
I think you need to talk with your mentor as your studies are getting affected and due to that you are not able to study properly so kindly be active while teaching.
After this if your teacher doesn't supports you and the problem remains same then you can change your mentor by a simple process.
