Some situations do arise when two or more candidates score the same marks in JEE Main examination. During these situations, the inter-se merit or tie breaking policy will be adopted by the official authorities. The tie breaking criteria will be different for Paper 1 and Paper 2 of JEE Main : JEE Main Paper 1 1. Candidates with percentile score in Mathematics of JEE Main will ranked higher 2. If the tie still exists, the candidates with higher percentile score in Physics will be ranked higher. 3. Thereafter, candidates will be higher percentile score.in Chemistry will be ranked higher. 4. If the tie is still not broken, candidates older in age will be given the higher rank. JEE Main Paper 2 1. Candidates who secured higher marks in aptitude test will be given the higher rank. 2. Next, if the tie still persists, then the candidates with higher scores in Drawing Test will be allotted the higher rank. 3. At the next stage to break the tie, the ration of positive and negative marks will be taken into consideration. Those candidates who have a higher absolute value of the ratio will be given the higher rank. 4. If the tie is still not broken, candidates older in age will be given the higher rank

For two students with same total marks, their respective scores in Physics, Chemistry and Maths are considered. Their respective lowest scores across the three subjects are compared. The one with higher lowest score is given a better rank. If both have same lowest scores, second lowest scores are compared.
