JEE Main is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) twice every year as an entrance examination for admission into NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and also as an qualifying examination for being eligible to write JEE Advanced. As of 2020, there are around 23,500 seats in NITs for undergraduate courses through JEE Main. And if all GFTIs are put together then the number of seats is around 9,200.

Jee main is the gate way for the entrance into famous Engineering colleges like NIT's, IIIT's and GFTI 's .Total number of seats in these institutions are as follows.
NIT's-17967
IIIT'S-4023
GFTI's-4683
There are also some extra seats for girls supernumerary in NIT's and GFTI's
