Hello candidate!
The total marks for JEE mains is 300 (100 marks for each section). It completely depends upon your level of preparation that how much you'll score. To get into IITs, you need to score 250+ marks. For general category, to get into government colleges, you need to score 120+ to be on a safer side.
Cut off in JEE mains is the rank set by colleges within which they'll give you admission. If your All India rank (AIR) will meet the cutoff of any college/colleges then you'll get admission into it/those. You'll get qualified for JEE Advanced based on your AIR and percentile in JEE mains.
Hope this information helps!
JEE Main is a percentile based exam, which means that it may be possible that a student with a shift different than yours can get a better rank at a mark which is lesser than yours. So, rather than focussing on marks you should focus towards the percentile. The qualifying percentiles for the OBC-NCL category in JEE Main in previous few years are as follows:
2019: 74.3166557 percentile
2020: 72.8887969 percentile
2021: 68.0234447 percentile
While the cut-off percentiles for the CRL category are as follows:
2019: 89.7548849
2020: 90.3765335
2021: 87.8992241
