How much marks do I need to score in each section so that at least I will be eligible for an IIM call, I expect the sectional cutoff for each section is around 80 percentile.

Hi Jitesh,

The average cutoff marks segregated section-wise for various prominent IIMs are as follows:

  • Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension(VARC)- 80 percentile.
  • Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning(DI & LR)- 80 percentile.
  • Quantitative Ability(QA)- 80 percentile.

The overall cutoff is usually above 85 percentile for IIMs.

But do take note of the fact that the cutoff tends to vary year to year and is dependent on a number of factors such as:

  • Exam difficulty.
  • Number of seats.
  • Reputation of institute, etc.

Also remember that although the cutoff marks are usually around 85 percentile for IIMs, but still the actual cutoff that decides whether or not the candidate will get a call from the reputed IIMs is 99 percentile and also a bright academic record from class 10th level till graduation level.
