You can definitely expect admission in NITs if you have a rank below 15000 being an SC candidate but since competition becomes tough every year so it's better to be below 10000 to be on the safer side. Moreover there are many good colleges which have come up recently that are equally good as NITs so students get distributed among them. But still it's advisable to maintain a rank below 10000.

Thanks!! for the advice but can i know how much of the total marks i must get to be in that 10k range??

You must keep your scores above 120. But don't concentrate on cut offs only try to score as much as you can because you don't know how the others are performing.
