Hello,

Admission in to NIT is based on merit in JEE Main and admission in to IIT is based on merit in JEE Advanced. The minimum percentile to qualify in JEE Main to be eligible to get seat in NIT is 50.1760245 percentile score considering the previous year cut off for SC category. This year the cut off percentile is expected to be in between 50-55 percentile. You have to score above the cut off percentile to have decent chances of getting seat in NIT. A safe score is 92-95 percentile, so you should aim to score minimum 92-95 percentile in JEE Main. To get seat in IIT you need to score minimum 40% of total score in JEE Advanced. The cut off is different for each institute and branch. Cut off is determined based based on factors such as total number of candidates appeared, difficulty level of examination and total number of seats available etc.
