Ideally, students start their Gate preparation in their 3rd year so I would suggest you to focus on your B.Tech syllabus as of now because this is the time when you can clear all your basics. And Gate syllabus is based on your graduation only so better to focus on it and clear your basic concepts first and in 3rd year you can start your Gate preparation.
