First you have to apply for the JoSAA counseling process, where several GFTIs, NITs, and IIITs are available for admissions. You also get a State preference in the NIT of your home state based on your category rank. So, if you have got a decent score which matches the previous years Cut-offs of these government colleges, then definitely you should apply for it.
