Hello,

The percentile you can expect in JEE Mains 2025 with a score of 35-40 marks depends on the overall difficulty of the paper, the number of candidates, and their performance. Since you mentioned that people are calling the 23rd January Shift 1 paper difficult, here’s an estimation:

Expected Percentile Range:

With 35-40 marks in a tough shift, your percentile is likely to be in the range of 50-65 percentile.

Well considering the paper level of 23rd January 2025 shift 1 to be difficult and your marks expectation to be about 35-40, your percentile should be 68-75, however also considering that it is predicted to have been moderate, your rank will be between 61-70.

All the very best

Based on historical trends and analysis of JEE Main difficulty levels, the percentile corresponding to a 35-40 marks range in a tough shift can be estimated as follows:

Expected Percentile for 35-40 Marks :

  • If the paper was difficult :
    • Your percentile might range between 45-55 percentile .
  • If the paper was moderate to easy :
    • The percentile could be lower, around 30-40 percentile .

Factors Influencing Percentile :

  1. Difficulty of the Shift :

    • In a tougher shift, students generally score lower, so even 35-40 marks can result in a higher percentile.
  2. Normalization Process :

    • NTA uses normalization to ensure fairness, accounting for variations in difficulty across shifts.
  3. Number of Candidates :

    • Percentile depends on how many candidates scored below you.

Hello there,

If you scored 35-40 marks in JEE Mains 2025 , your expected percentile will likely be in the range of 60 -70 percentile , depending on the difficulty level of the paper and the overall performance of candidates in that shift. Since you mentioned that the paper was difficult, the percentile might lean toward the higher side of this range because of normalization.

Key Points:

  1. Normalization : Your raw score is normalized based on the difficulty level of your shift, so if your shift was harder, your percentile could improve slightly.

  2. Category Factor : If you belong to a reserved category (like SC/ST/OBC), this percentile might still help you qualify for JEE Advanced or secure admission to some state-level or private colleges.

Keep an eye on the official results for precise normalization details.

I hope this answer helps you. If you have more queries then feel free to share your questions with us we will be happy to assist you.

Thank you and wishing you all the best for your bright future.

So, through result from various years a score of 35-40 marks in JEE Main typically corresponds to a percentile below 50, though exact percentile can vary depending on the overall performance of candidates and the specific difficulty level of the exam shift, given that the January 23 Shift 1 paper was of moderate difficulty,  it's likely that a score in this range would place you in the lower percentile bracket.
