Honestly in 56 percentile it is difficult to get NITs because the cut offs are much higher than this even in sc category. So, i would suggest you to focus more on 2nd attempt of jee mains .
You need to score atleast 80-85 percentile to get NITs like Jamshedpur, durgapur, Silchar, allahabad, rourkela, Calicut.
In this score you may have chances for GFTI's like Gurughasidas, kongri Vishwavidyalaya, Assam University.
