Hello student,
With a score of 40, you can qualify, but you cannot get a seat in any IIT's when comparing the results of previous years. May be, you can try for NIT's or IIIT's. Also, one thing to keep in mind is that scores and ranks vary each year with difficulty level of the question paper and availability of seats.
