I have decided to take a drop and appear for jee next year, if I happen to just clear mains, will I get a good college like NIT
If you just clear JEE Mains next year, getting admission in a good NIT will be very tough because NITs usually need a much better rank. Just clearing means your rank might be too low for top colleges. But don’t lose hope! You can try for other government or private colleges with good courses. Work hard during your drop year, improve your rank, and aim higher. Better preparation will increase your chances of getting a good college next time!
Hi,
Firstly, it's a big decision to take a drop for JEE. Following points should be noted while taking a drop:
- This is your last and final attempt to crack JEE and enter the it’s so take it seriously and give it your 100%.
- Analyse your past mistakes and learn from them also never commit them again.
- Stay away from negative people, avoid excessive socializing and practice strict time management.
- Live with JEE for the next 1 year, think of nothing else.
- Avoid stress inducing things like Gf/Bf thing, Too much article reading on Quora on droppers performance, avoid whats'app, facebook etc.
- Stay selfish, stay hungry for marks and improvement.
- Keep a record of your achievements as well as your mistakes and give a look to it every night before going to sleep.
- Take utmost care of your health( I lost 3 months due too jaundice and you can’t imagine the pressure in which I studied during Jan to May).
- Lastly never give up and work hard till the very end.
Now coming to your question,
Yes you can get a good NIT college with just clearing you mains. While a good rank in JEE Main is crucial for admission to top NITs, it's not the only factor. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority considers your JEE Main rank, along with your preferences and the available seats, to allocate admissions to NITs and other government engineering colleges.
For NITs if you have nothing to do with branch and are only concern with name of college, 150 marks can help you, but if you want branches like CS/IS you need score of 200+ ,As new NITs score of 130 can also help you but you have to wait till last session.
This above was for general category, for OBC subtract 25-30 marks form above given score and For SC/ST subtract 35–40.
You can check out the below mentioned link of various NITs accepting the score of JEE mains for admission purpose,

I hope your query is cleared. Thank you.
