Since you passed Class 12 in 2025 but didn’t meet the 75% attendance/criteria, you can appear for the 2026 board exams as a private/re-appear student to improve your marks and meet eligibility requirements for further courses. Make sure to register with CBSE for the 2026 exams and focus on revising all subjects to secure the required percentage. Completing this will allow you to apply for college admissions next year.
Yes Manya, you can be eligible for JoSAA counselling in 2026 if you appear for NIOS Class 12 and successfully fulfill the 75% criteria or the top 20 percentile rule in that attempt. Since you could not meet the eligibility with CBSE 2025, your new marks from NIOS 2026 will be considered. Make sure you choose the required subjects (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) and that NIOS remains a recognized board, which it is. As long as you satisfy all other eligibility conditions, you will be able to register and participate in JoSAA counselling with your 2026 marksheet.
Hey Manya! Yes, you will be eligible for JOSAA counselling in 2026 if you appear through NIOS and fulfill the 75% criteria or come under the top 20 percentile rule. NIOS is recognized by JEE authorities, so there won’t be an issue. Just make sure your marksheet clearly shows that you have met the eligibility percentage.
Hello dear student,
YES, you will be eligible for JoSAA ( JEE Main/advanced counselling) in 2025, if you clear your NIOS 12th in 2026 with 75%, which is the required criteria.
The requirement is your qualifying exam that is 12th including NIOS must meet the eligibility conditions in the same year in which you are taking admission.
Hello Aspirant,
No — if you passed Class 12 in 2025 (CBSE) and again in 2026 (NIOS), you will not be eligible for JoSAA 2026 given the JoSAA rules only accept one Class 12 result from one board in the permitted passing years. JoSAA 2026 counselling needs eligible passing years to be 2024, 2025, and 2026, but they do not consider improvement from a different board (CBSE → NIOS). You should have reattempted improvement in the previous board (CBSE): or should have done something to make sure your NIOS attempt is considered to be your only valid Class 12 exam.
