Hello Sandhya,

For becoming a collector one needs to complete the graduation degree in any stream so you can opt for any stream after your class 10th. If you have interest in Science subjects then you can go for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics combination but you can also opt for Humanities stream as the subjects taught in this stream are beneficial for future in choosing elective subject before appearing for UPSC examination like Geography, History are scoring subjects there.

Eligibility criteria for being a Collector:

  • The candidate should be a citizen of India.
  • The age limit is 21-40 years. There is 3 years relaxation for OBC, 5 years for SC/ST.
  • The candidate should complete their graduation in any stream with a fair percentage from any recognized university or institute.

After completing graduation you need to apply for the civil services exam conducted  by the UPSC. The exam has 3 levels, which are, preliminary, mains and a personal interview. If you clear all these rounds in the same attempt then you'll be appointed as a collector. There are six attempts given to a candidate to appear for UPSC examination.
