There are two ways to become a software engineer , either you can give entrance exms like jee, vit,bits and so on and can do btech from respctive colleges or you can join aniit course from NIIT, it is the two year program in which u would learn about new technologies and will become a software engineer.

In order to become a software engineer you need to complete your B.tech and you can take CSE Or IT branch.  The entrance exam you can appear JEE Main Entrance Exam ( National Level Exam) the other exams BITSAT, SRM, VIT, Amrita and Manipal & your state level exam etc.
