Hello aspirant

I can help you with better information

After 12 class many students have confusion between b tech or normal degree for IAS preparation.

From last few years the top score in ias exam is  from engineering background. But the success rate is very less.

Very few students are succeed from MBBS stream also.

Better to take  degree course like B.com, B.a etc where you can concentrate more for exam after degree.

Hope above information is helpful to you

All the best

Thank you

Greetings,

Raunaque I would advice and through this article will elaborate with every provided facts as to why I am suggesting you to take up a particular stream in your graduation course. So, I suggest that you should go for Humanities subjects in your graduation course for the reasons hereby stated:

IAS Exam Pattern:

For Prelims

There are 2 compulsory papers

1.GAT ( General Ability Test )

2. CSAT (Civil Service Aptitude Test )

OFFLINE PAPER  (pen and paper mode)

MCQ( Multiple Choice Questions )

Exam Duration: 2 hours ; 2 hours and 20 minutes for blind students

Exam Language : English and Hindi

MARKING : GAT (200)

                   CAT (200)

FOR EVERY WRONG ANSWER 0.33 MARKS WILL BE DEDUCTED .

Total Marks : 400

PRELIMS are QUALIFYING in nature which means you need to score 33% to be qualified for MAINS.

SYLLABUS (GAT)

There is no particular syllabus for IAS preparation but after analysing previous year papers the continuity and inclusion of these topic are frequently seen:

History of India ( focus more on Medieval and Modern History and Indian National Movement)

Constitution of India (Preamble, Fundamental Rights , Constituent Assembly , Duties )

Indian Polity (Divine theory, Contract Theory ,read major works like Leviathan , The Social Contract , Socrates ideologies )

Panchayati Raj

Indian Geography and World Geography( History of Partition , World Wars ,Tectonic Plates etc)

Organisations like SAARC,UNESCO,UNICEF etc

Biodiversity

Economics, Sustainable Development ,Demographics

Current Events( National as well as International )

*As you can observe Raunaque that most of the topics which will lead you towards Mains are Humanities subject ( history , geography, economics, polity)and the 7 papers (only 2 are optional) which are a part of mains also contains most of the humanities subject

SYLLABUS (CSAT)

Comprehension

Logical Reasoning and Analytical Reasoning

Data Interpretation

Basic Numeracy

General Mental Ability

Decision Making and Problem Solving

MAINS

TIME DURATION: 3 HOURS ; 3 HOURS and 30 MINUTES for blind students

PAPER : OFFLINE MODE

EXAM LANGUAGE : ENGLISH AND HINDI

EXAM NATURE : BOTH OBJECTIVE AS WELL AS SUBJECTIVE IN NATURE

MARKS:250

* MAINS ARE FURTHER DIVIDED INTO :

QUALIFYING EXAM

MERIT EXAM

QUALIFYING EXAM

1ST PAPER  : ( ANY ONE OF THE LANGUAGE PRESCRIBED IN 6TH SCHEDULE OF CONSTITUTION)

MARKS : 300

2ND PAPER : ENGLISH

MARKS : 300

MAINS

 There are 7 papers

Paper :1

 Based on candidates Writing  Ability

 This paper is totally Subjective

LANGUAGE : ONLY ENGLISH

MARKS : 250

SYLLABUS : ESSAY ON A PARTICULAR TOPIC

PAPER 2

SYLLABUS : GENERAL STUDIES

TOPICS : Indian heritage and culture , history and geography of teh world and society etc

PAPER 3

SYLLABUS :GENERAL STUDIES

TOPIC :  Governance ,constitution, polity, social justice and international relations etc.

 PAPER 4

SYLLABUS :  GENERAL STUDIES

TOPICS:  Technology ,economic development, sustainable development , environment ,bio diversity, disaster management, technology ,pollution,IT etc

PAPER 5 :GENERAL STUDIES

TOPICS :ethics , civil values, laws, contributions of great thinkers in philosophy ,international relations etc.

*PAPER 6 AND 7 ARE OPTIONAL

   MARKS : 250+250

PAPER 1 (6TH)

SYLLABUS : agriculture , civil engineering, sociology, geology, economics, statistics, zoology etc.

PAPER 2 (7TH)

SYLLABUS : Literature of any of the languages prescribed in 6th schedule of Indian constitution

EACH PAPER CARRIES 250 MARKS

*AS you can observe and analyse that the syllabus of all the 7 papers in Mains includes almost all the  topics from Humanities subject which are  History ,Geography,Economics ,English Language ,Polity as described above .

And if you do not want to go for Humanities subject them aim for IES after completing your engineering but if seriously want to become IAS officer than in my opinion you should look at the syllabus mentioned and then choose wisely.

Feel to drop a comment any time you encounter a doubt or have some queries I would be happy to resolve them .
