Hello Sarang,
I think, you worked very hard in this attempt and this is quit good figure/marks.
You have to try next time with a hard work.
With this marks, you would get admission in NITs.
You have to prepare yourself for next time and this time GATE and IES both. And apply for RRB JE ,SSC JE  also
I am from also mechanical engineering, so I can say 45 marks is good score in GATE.

you got a decent score in gate , while by this score you can either used for getting job in PSU and getting addmission for MTech. i would like suggest you try our tool for getting to know which college and PSU jobs as  just by your marks its hard to say which all the colleges you would get since lot many factors come into consideration like caste , gate score out of 1000,your graduation , so i would like to say go for our tool called college predictor or PSU jobs, that would give you exact results
