Hi Sritam.

If you have set your aim at becoming a Research Scientist in genetics (Geneticist), then I would suggest you to go fro a B. Sc. in either general science or life sciences.

Once you've completed you Bachelor's, you can apply for a Master's in Genetics (advisable), Molecular biology (advisable) or Genetic engineering. Go for reputed institutes that offer good research exposure. In between your vacations, apply and undergo internships that'll add value and hone your technical skills.

After getting done with Master's, you can apply for scholarships for PhD in India as well as abroad and perhaps, start a career in genetics and genetic engineering.

A career in genetics or any branch of science requires utmost patience and consistency. Though a Master's can do for many positions, a doctorate degree is desirable for many senior positions in research organizations and universities for a career in research as well as academics.

Hope this helps. Feel free to get in touch with us for any query.

All the best.

Sritam, the package in case of such specialized areas vary to a great extent. In India, you can expect an average salary of 3.5 lpa. The package increases with experience. You can expect it to double up in abroad.
