I was listed as a non-local for NEET 2024 counseling, which seems unfair, as my parents lived in Telangana for over 20 years, and I studied grades 6 - 9 except for 10th grade which I did abroad, and Intermediate in Ts too. Is there anything that can be done to change my status to local?

Hello there,

For NEET counseling, the rules regarding local and non-local status can vary based on the state's specific criteria.

Since you have studied from grades 6 to 9 in Telangana, and your parents have lived there for over 20 years, you may have a strong case to be considered local. The fact that you completed 10th grade abroad may have caused your current classification as non-local.

Steps to resolve:

1. Submit a grievance: Contact the NEET counseling authority or the concerned state body in Telangana and explain your situation. Provide all the documents showing your parents' residence in Telangana for more than 10 years and your education from grades 6 to 9 in the state. This includes ration cards, voter IDs, or residence certificates as proof of domicile.

2. Request for a hearing: Some states provide candidates with the opportunity to appeal their local/non-local status. You can request a hearing to present your case.

3.Consult legal assistance: If the process seems complicated or if your grievance is not resolved quickly, you could consider consulting a legal expert who specializes in educational matters to help push your case.

By providing enough evidence of your and your parents' connection to Telangana, there's a possibility you could be reclassified as a local candidate.

Thankyou. Hope this information helps
