Now the most practical approach is that no field or stream can ensure your success in UPSC CSE. The success in UPSC is determined by the strength of your preparation of the exam, concepts, the way of expressing and your enthusiasm. So if you are from commerce it will not effect your preparation in any way.

You should keep your preparation strategy good and you should do your graduation in the subject you like the most. This is one of the funda many aspirants don't take care off. See if you study the subject you are affectionate in and if you go for it then you will not get frustrated in your course work and thus you will be always be in an energetic mood which will obviously be beneficial for your UPSC CSE preparation. Also if you think to prepare while study UG then I would say go for General course and not for Hons courses. This is because for hons course you have to invest considerably more amount of time while general courses are superficial and are easy to study and you will get more time to study for UPSC.
