Yes you can write gate exam.
Eligibility criteria for writing gate exam is Candidates should have successfully completed your 4 year BE orbitech program or are currently pursuing your final year in the degree then you are eligible for GATE exam. There is no restriction for food technology students for participating in the GATE exam.
If you are pursuing your b.tech infotechnology after completing that you can definitely write GATE exam for CSE. B. Tech in Food Technology holder can give GATE exam in Life Science subject. 'GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. ' If you have Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology or Architecture/Design or its equivalent or masters degree in science department then are eligible for GATE exam. GATE exam is for testing your technical skills. It doesn't matter which course you did your undergraduate program. If you are eligible as per the eligibility criteria mention about then you can write GATE examination.

Yes! It is possible. you can appear for the GATE exam for CSE with a prior Non CSE branch. There are Many students who cracked the gate with good scores with non CSE branches and now working Under top companies like Google, CISCO, Apple etc. You can go ahead with this, All the best!
