Yes IIEST Shibpur is nit like nit durgapur or jamshedpur or far better than that , it's in the list of top college of our nation like iits, professor are fabulous and placement are good and it's being better every year.It is one of the oldest engineering college of our country,and believe me this college has potential to rise its ranking and list itself in top colleges like iit Bombay and nit Trichy.And you'll see this changes in upcoming years.

IIEST Shibpur is one of the best Engineering Institutes in East India next to IIT Kharagpur and NIT Jamshedpur, both when we consider placements and academics. It has equivalent importance as an NIT and is under GFTI's. Counselling for IIEST is done by JOSAA under GFTI Category, alongwith other NITS.

All the NITs are not at the same level. We should be very specific with nit we are talking about.

A college must be judged or selected on some criterion like INFRASTRUCTURE, PLACEMENT records and OPPORTUNITIES for further studies. So if you are talking about nit Trichi, Warangal, Surthkal and Allahabad I will say No,IIEST is not a preferable choice .And if you are looking for a suitable location, nit Durgapur is better choice because statistics is not with IIEST. Presently, only few companies are coming for On-campus placements for Civil in IIEST. But ofcourse it depends upon your GATE rank that which nit you are getting? And decide according to that .If you are not getting any reputed nit, go for IIEST.
