illustrate, with example, different types of social mobility
Hello there
Social mobility is basically change in an individual's social status from one status to another may be it is in decreasing or in increasing according to the perceptions of the society. It takes different forms and the types of mobility is are interdependent of one another and also in some cases they can overlap too.
- Horizontal mobility- it is a situation when a person changes their occupation but that individual overall social standing doesn't change. For example, if there is a doctor goes from practicing medicine and now started to teach in any medical school then the occupation is change now but that doctor's Prestige and social standing is unchanged.
- Vertical mobility- it is a change in the occupational political or religious status of a person which ultimately cause a change in their societal position.
- Upward mobility- it is a change when a person moves from a lower position in society to a higher one.
- Downward mobility- it takes place when a person moves from a higher position in a society to a position of lower one.
- Inter- generational mobility- it happens when an individual social position changes from one generation to the another one doesn't matter change is upward or downward.
I hope it helps you!
Thank you!
