For admission into IIIT Bangalore, the choice of GATE 2019 score depends from branch to branch.
As per the notification out by IIIT Bangalore,

The admissions procedure for the programme shall be
based on previous academic record, research statement, prior research experience, recommendation letters, written tests as required by the chosen research domain and interviews of the candidates by interview panel at the Institute.
The interview panel shall be drawn from Members of the Senate, Expert Members from the Industry, and Distinguished Academicians.
Minimum Eligibility Criteria:
For applicants to
- Computer Science
- Software Engineering
- Data Sciences
- Electronic Systems Design
- Networking Communication & Signal Processing
4 year Bachelor’s degree in engineering (B.E., B.Tech. or equivalent) is required for the Master of Science by Research/ Master of Science (Research) program
Additional specific requirements are as follows:
- Computer Science and Software Engineering:
GATE or GRE score taken in the last five years.
Candidates with suitable industrial or academic experience and credentials may apply without competitive exam (GATE/GRE) scores, which may be waived.
Written exam will be conducted by IIIT Bangalore, covering topics on Data Structures and Algorithms, Discrete Maths, DBMS, Operating Systems, Basic Programming, Computer Architecture and Organisation, followed by an interview.

Data Sciences:
Applicants should have taken one of the following examinations:
1. GATE examination for Computer Science,
2. A 45-minute written examination conducted by the research domain at IIIT Bangalore exclusively for applicants to Data Sciences.
This will be followed by an interview.

VLSI Systems:
Applicants will have to write a written exam, followed by an interview. Applicants with a valid GATE score will be exempted from the written exam, and will appear directly for an interview.

Networking, Communications & Signal Processing:
1. M.Tech. or equivalent degree in CS, ECE, IT, Networking, Communication etc.
2. Applicants will have to write a written exam, followed by an interview. Applicants with good GATE score will be exempted from the written exam, and will appear directly for an interview.
