Dear Laksman,  GME is like a bridge course for Mechanical Engineers to Merchant Navy. There is a severe shortage of maritime professionals in the shipping industry. So if you have a Mechanical engineering degree and are interested in Merchant Navy, then GME is the ideal choice for you. If you take up this course and clear MEO Class 4 Part A Examination, you go through a mandatory 6 months sea service and after other tests and training, once you clear MEO Class 4 Part B examination, you will be given a Marime Engineer Class 4 Certificate of Competency. Post this certification, you can work as a Marine Engineer in Merchant Navy ships anywhere in the world.
