According to the rules you need to have to pass 10+2 to answer JEE Mains/Adv. Now to enter 12th, you would obviously need to pass 11th standard. Hence, Yes it is very important and one of the most basic requirement.

JEE has nothing to do with whether you pass or fail in class 11th or how you prepared for it.
But nearly 40% of questions asked in JEE MAINS are from standard 11th only(according to previous years statistics).
So,you must have proper commands on all the important chapters of class 11th.
So in nutshell, JEE  only considers your 12th board marksheet and not class 11th marksheet!
