I think you want to count your attempts and possiblility of appearing in the exams so let me claer you that jee mains consider the first time when you attempted your exam and there should not be more gap then 2 years to appear for the next time so you should take care of the too because this can br crucial dnough to make changes.

If your query is regarding the number of attempts for JEE Main then you can appear in JEE Main for three consecutive years from the year of your qualifying exam. So it gives you 6 attempts to appear in JEE Main as JEE Main is conducted twice in a year. Whether or not you appear in JEE Main before appearing in qualifying exam it will be counted as first attempt.
