Hello aspirant,

No, proficiency in English is not required to become an IAS official.  English is now a required language for applicants to the Indian Administrative Service.  Any of the regional languages listed in Schedule 8 of the Constitution or English may be used by the candidate to write the test.

I hope you are doing well. As per your mentioned query , it is not need to be know English to become IAS. Most of the students who have hindi background also become IAS. There is no communication barrier.
