Basically 75% is the eligibility criteria for jee main genral category. And when you qualify jee main at the certain cut off then you are eligible for jee advance but when you check the eligibility criteria you find that they also want student having 75% in there 12th. So on an average 75% is the eligibility criteria for jee main.

See if you score 75% or more marks in your class 12th then you will be eligible to qualify JEE-Main and if you qualify JEE-Main with the minimum cut-off percentile as announced by National Testing Agency then you will be eligible to sit for JEE-Advance. So the primary requisite is to secure 75% marks or more in class 12th or be in top 20 percentile of your respective board's results.
