Congratualations, Hard work pays off. Candidates who are among the top rankers stand a chance to get admission in IITs because of rank that is less than 200. a score of 641 is very well and you certainly have good chances.

The older and renowned IITs like IIT bomabay and IIT delhi have higher cut offs simply because they are established ones  with very high demand from students. to get a seat in these IITs the GATE scores have to  be very good. Generally candidates have to appear for a written test in addition to an interview because the GATE scores are valid for a period of three years. GATE scores from 600 to 800 stand a chance of a call to these institutes depending upon the discipline applied to.

Admission to NITs is through is CCMT which is organised by MNIT Jaipur every year. Lesser opted disciplines have lower cutoffs but the CCMT cut offs for the renowned disciplines range from 300-900. The admisiions depends upon the institute, discipline and seat intake among other factors.
