Hi,

Following are the rules to do the nomenclature of bicyclic compounds.

1- to designate the parent alkyl name count total number of carbon atom of the ring

2- count the number of carbon starting from bridgehead position to the left ,right and in bridge.

3-write the name as bicyclo[number of carbon in brigde 1,2,and three ]parent name.

For example ,bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane.

It show that the bicyclic ring has 6 carbon in the ring hence parent name heptane is given.

2.2.1 show that there are two carbon at the left, two at right and one at bridgehead.

Hello,

Bicyclic Molecules are Fused ring systems that share more than two atoms.

Following are the steps for nomenclature of Bicyclic Molecules:

1. Count the number of carbon atoms in the molecule. This will be the parent name.

2. Count the number of carbons between bridgeheads and place then in brackets in descending order. e.g., [ 3,2,1,1]

3. Write the word " bicyclo " at starting of the name of molecule.

e.g, bicyclo [ 2,2,1] heptane, bicyclo [ 2,2,2] octane, etc.

Best Wishes
