So I am assuming you are from India. At present the number of LINAC machines are far less than what is required. The next 5-20 years should see a growth in the number of Oncology centers. Also increasing life span and changing demographics will increase the number of patients considerably. All this is to say that Oncologists will be in great demand.

To practice Radiotherapy you need a LINAC or Cobalt machine, at least. Since the investment is huge, most Radiation Oncologists have to join an institute or private hospital to treat cancer patients. Many advancements like IMRT, IGRT, Cyberknife and Proton therapy have made Radiation Oncology a cutting edge branch.

As an Oncologist you need to have inclination towards research. It will help you. Also you can focus on Genetics of Cancer, Radiobiology or Molecular Oncology also. They are different scopes ...
