There is another option as well, last year one of my friends in the college had a dream of joining NIT as well so other than dropping an year he joined in the college and prepare once again for JEE exam and after 1 year he got admission in NIT Calicut.

Taking a drop can be risky and you have to be very confident regarding competing next year and alternatives. If you think dropping is not up to mark, you can take admission in those colleges and score well in academics as to get into IIMs the graduation results matter a lot. Moreover, qualifying CAT is also not that easy so you have to prepare hard and as your career goal is set from now, you can effort more from the very first year to achieve it.
