You may get NITs but getting a top nit your chance is quite low.so if you want good nit and good branch you have to appear in April month exam.

96.71 percentile is normal percentile ( when you you calculate your approximately rank it will be more than 30000 )
One thing is good that you are better than those remaining students out if 8-9 lakhs
But when you compare with those 30000 you are far behind becaibe seats are limited and competetion is high.
You can get good college ( like NIT with non core branch ; state government colleges etc) in this rank but if you improve your score in April attempt than you will have many options with you and you can get core branch in top colleges .
So I would suggest you to secure rank under 10000 ( 99+ percentile ).
