Sir I'm getting 54.67 marks in Mechanical set-2 General category. Is there any chance of getting IIT and good NIT.

According to the above link, you ought to have cleared the cutoff hence eligible for admissions. Further, if not an IIT getting a NIT is a very good chance. :)

I think if you try IITs there is a good chance you will secure a seat in some IIT.

Hey, the admissions in any IIT or NIT depends on the cutoffs of the particular institutes that they release at the time of admissions. But the general cutoff as per sources for ME set-2 this year is around 29-31 marks.
So you are definitely eligible for admission. But it will depend on your over all percentage or marks of all papers that whether you are eligible for IIT or not. You can check the previous years cutoffs in the below provided link. Hope this info is of help.
