Hi Murthy!

The number of researchers coming out IITs have very much reduced over past 2 decades. In the 60s and 70s, each department had nearly 50-60 PhD candidates. But, now it has reduced to single digits. The reason for this might not be the increase in number of the other Colleges, but the education system as claimed by the Chief Mentor of Infosys. He felt that the Indian Education System does not give prior importance to problem solving. When students inculcate independent thinking with what they study, then they might spark their interests and in turn the number of researchers would increase and IITs will again be glorified.
