My advice.dont go for GATE..It's very tough now..
Previous 4 years Gate Rank #1 mark is around 95.. you have to score 77+ to get any PSU call for general catagory
And if you are thinking about MTech..There is no placement in MTech in all Nits ,
You get placement only in old IITs but
The problem is PSU interview held before MTech admission so all GATE top rankers book there seats in IITs,Nits but when the get job of PSU they vacant there MTech seat and that seat is not available for counselling coz process end long before.we mechanical engineers don't want to leave technical field but current market senario is very bad. Mechanical students are the most unemployed one.there switching jobs to software,mba etc
So take decisions now preparation is not a way...If you can score 77+ then go for GATE ,if not then choose other option.

It's better if you prepare for MBA,very less effort compare to GATE

So now I coming in you question.. after reading all this you still.go for the gate then I will give you some guidance..

1.buy made easy or ace academy {my suggestion made easy} 20 years Gate solve question booklet ( 700rupees ) :- This help you to understand the level of questions asked in exams, practices those questions,clear concept from text book .

2.made easy handbook:- this books content all formulas used in mechanical good for quick revisions too.Gate is all about concept + Formula. You have to memorize thousands of Formula.Even if you forgets some minor thing of a formula your answer varied from the actual answer and bcoz of new pattern they don't give options of 33% question.there is just a box you have to fill the answer and if your answer vary more than 5% then your answer considered wrong.

3.join online ace academy's test series they take test chapter wise and very close to the actual gate xam.Made easy test series is little tough and and pattern is not mateched with gate.
My advice join both test series. Ace academy+ made easy .

4.Buy IES solved paper book..For this made easy is best compare to ace..IT helps to clear lots of concept which is not available in text book.

5.start making short notes.. Remember before xam you have to revise all mechanical subjects in 1 day so make some notes which requires 1subject/hour for revision

6.be confident..Be patient..Be shameless,if you have doubt even it's very basic don't feel embrace to ask .

7. Mechanical engineers are the best engineers,all the top ranker is Any Engineering entrance exams took admission in Mechanical.so you are facing best students..So try you best..Know your limits.. Don't go in the wrong direction.

You can start with basic subject books of your engineering and then you can move over to competitive books, focus especially on thermodynamics ,strength of materials, practice a lot of mocks to get a better idea of the examination,also refer to last year papers.
