Question : The average monthly expenditure of a family for the first four months is Rs. 2,570 and for the next three months Rs. 2,490, and for the last five months Rs. 3,030. If the family saves Rs. 5,320 during the whole year, the average monthly income of the family during the year is:
Option 1: Rs. 3,000
Option 2: Rs. 3,185
Option 3: Rs. 3,200
Option 4: Rs. 3,580
Correct Answer: Rs. 3,185
Solution :
Sum of expenditure of first 4 months = 4 × 2570 = 10,280
Sum of expenditure of next 3 months = 3 × 2490 = 7,470
Sum of expenditure of last 5 months = 5 × 3030 = 15,150
Savings = 5,320
We know that,
Total income = expenditure + savings = 10,280 + 7,470 + 15,150 + 5,320 = 38,220
So, monthly income $=\frac{\text{Total income}}{12}=\frac{38220}{12}=$ 3,185
Hence, the correct answer is Rs. 3,185.
