Question : The total number of candidates who appeared and qualified in a competitive examination from different cities is given in the following bar graph. Study the bar graph carefully and answer the following question.
What is the difference between the average number of appeared candidates and the average number of qualified candidates in the exam from all the cities?
Option 1: 525
Option 2: 550
Option 3: 650
Option 4: 625
Correct Answer: 650
Solution :
Total number of candidates appeared in all the cities = 2500 + 3000 + 4500 + 1200 = 11200
Average number of candidates appeared in all the cities = $\frac{11200}{4}$ = 2800
Total number of candidates qualified in all the cities = 1350 + 2500 + 3900 + 850 = 8600
Average number of candidates qualified in all the cities = $\frac{8600}{4}$ = 2150
$\therefore$ Difference = 2800 – 2150 = 650
Hence, the correct answer is 650.
