Hello Student,

The word disaster is derived from an ITALIAN word DISASTRO which basically means i ll-starred event.

But the ASTRO in DISASTRO is derived from a latin word ASTRUM. Astro means star.

The term disaster came into existence in the mid 16th century. Intially the meaning of disaster was - " an unfavourable position of a star "
