this year students appearing for comedk was20k less than previous year,so can we expect to secure a better rank with same marks as last year

Surely one can consider this as the parameter to consider the rank. As the number of participants decreases, there is the probability that rank will become better but the catch is - it's not for sure. The condition can be opposite also. It also depends on the nature if exam whether it was difficult or easy. Moreover, the range of highest marks will decide the rank ranging.
