The syllabus for both the UPSC exam prelims and mains is same in both Hindi and English. The syllabus for both the exams includes history, geography, politics, economy, social issues, environment, science and technology, and current affairs .

Preliminary Examination:

The Preliminary Examination consists of two papers:

General Studies Paper-1:

It includes history, geography, politics, economy, social issues, environment, science and technology, and current affairs.

General Studies Paper-2 (CSAT):

This includes comprehension, communication, logical reasoning, decision making, basic numeracy and general mental ability.

Mains:

The main exam consists of nine papers:

Paper-A: Indian Language (Hindi or any other Indian Language).

Paper-B: English.

Paper-I: Essay.

Paper-2 to 5: General Studies Paper (History, geography, politics, economy, social issues, environment, science and technology).

Paper-6 and 7: Optional Subject (2 papers).

Optional Subjects:

In the main exam, you have to choose one optional subject from 26 subjects. Each optional subject has two papers, each carrying 250 marks.
