Mop up round is a round or a list basically that comes out after all the rounds are done.

It is for filling all the vacant seats that have been left out after the rounds. Sometimes students leave their seats due to some reasons and the seats become vacant.

As you know that there are two types of counselling

All India Level Counselling

State Level Counselling

All India Level Counselling:In all India level counselling there are15% seats from all Govt. colleges of India,allcentral universitiesand alldeemed universitiesparticipate.

It is conducted by Medical Counselling Committee.

ButMedical Counselling Committee conductstwo round of counsellingand if someseats remains vacantthese are transferred to concernedstate medical college or deemed universities.

Now it is the responsibility of state medical counselling committee and deemed universities to fill these vacant seats.

As deemed universities have full fledged control over these seats so all those students who apply here and fulfill the criteria get admission.

State Level Counselling: Similar to medical counselling committee ,counselling for remaining 85% of state Govt. colleges and state private universities is conducted by respective state counselling committee .

In general state counselling committee also does two counselling and for remaining seats college or private universities fills these states.

These remaining seats of state and deemed universities are filled mop up round counselling.It is also known as stray vacancy round or college level round of admission.

Although norms are described to fill these seats but most of the colleges or universities follows its own criteria and take admission of the students on the first come first serve basis on the last day of admission.
