A valediction is a farewell . Donne's title, however, explicitly prohibits grief about saying goodbye (hence the subtitle of “Forbidden Mourning”) because the speaker and his lover are linked so strongly by spiritual bonds that their separation has little meaning.

Hello Aspirant,

The title "A valediction forbidding mourning" mean - Themes that run through "A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning" include: In the poem, Donne doesn't mince words in this passage. He immediately informs us of the situation. This is a farewell. Although this isn't a precise distinction for a strict style of poetry, there are plenty of valedictory poems to be found. You're probably aware that on graduation day, a valedictory address is given. "To say farewell" is the literal meaning of a valediction.

I hope you got your answer!

Thank you.
