what is the difference between APE UPSTREAM and APE GAS?
Petroleum Engg.- Petroleum engineering is a field of engineering concerned with the activities related to the production of hydrocarbons, which can be either crude oil or natural gas. ( for detail, visit Wikipedia)
What’s Upstream?
The B. Tech Applied Petroleum Engineering program trains students in Petroleum Engineering and focuses primarily on exploration and production of Oil & Gas. You will gain a thorough knowledge of all major technical aspects in relation to the entire hydrocarbon value-chain and the strategic techno-commercial issues relevant to the domain.
Then, what’s Gas Stream about?
The program intends to create technical professionals who are fit to take on engineering responsibilities across the entire value-chain in the Gas Industry – a specialization that has seen growing demand in the recent years. The program is designed to help you understand and apply best global practices in the fields of natural gas processing, gas transportation and gas utilization techniques.
Upstream has indeed more opportunities and chances of better pay than Gas Stream. Be it non-Indian multi-national companies like Schlumberger,Shell,Cairn,Halliburton or Indian multinational company ONGC, there are more hirings for Upstream than Gas Stream. Reason being, Upstream ones are more skilled than those at Gas Stream. You can think of Upstream as being more about mechanics ! It’s about exploration, drilling techniques and so, it requires more skills, which results in a better pay .
