Hi Soumik,

NEET is an entrance exam to get one eligible for counselling of  colleges which provide MBBS, BDS,AYUSH courses etc. Present all over the country.

But some colleges (with autonomous    administrative bodies) which  are exception to NEET (e g AIIMS, JIPMER). these colleges conduct their own entrance examinations.

AIIMS UG exam covers just AIIMS Delhi and all other new AIIMS institutions.

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a pre medical test conducted all over India for admissions in Medical Colleges all over India. Based on scored rank in this test the admissions are proceeded.

AIIMS: The most prestigious medical college of India that has its own entrance. if you clear NEET and get a good rank you have to clear AIIMS to take admission .

There are a lot of differences between NEET & AIIMS :

  1. AIIMS is online while NEET is offline. So in AIIMS you don't need to worry about filling the omr sheet.
  2. Number of questions: 200 questions are asked in AIIMS while only 180 are asked in NEET.
  3. Time given: AIIMS is for 3 and a half hour and NEET is only for 3 hrs.
  4. Sections: The paper of NEET is divided in three sections while there is one additional section in AIIMS exam for GENERAL KNOWLEDGE.
  5. Negative marking: AIIMS has higher negative marking of 0.33 for every wrong answer while NEET has negative marking of 1/4.
  6. Difficult level: AIIMS paper has higher difficulty level than NEET.

Neet ug is the common entrance exam for admission to mbbs and bds seats in various medical colleges and dental collees of india (including private ). From this year it will also serve the basis for admission to bams, bhms, veterinary seats..
While some institues which donot admit students on the basis of marks and rank obtained in neet ug are AIIMS, JIPMER .. They take their individual exam for admission to mbbs seats.
Hope you understood.
Good luck.

NEET is for government colleges and all private colleges in the country.

AIIMS is for all institutes that come under the 'AIIMS' bracket- there are a total of 7 universities, AIIMS Delhi being the oldest and most renowed.

As for difficulty of the exam, AIIMS is less NCERT based and NEET is more NCERT based. Difficulty is similar for both examinations, but AIIMS may be a little more tough due to ambiguity in syllabus.
