The Main Function of Catalyst is to alter the rate of reaction without getting consumed in it. A Catalyst also reduces the Activation Energy of the Chemical Reaction.

When used with a Promoter like Molybdenum, it accelerates the rates of Reaction, while if a Inhibitor is added, it lowers the rate of reaction.

Hi,

Catalyst plays a very important role in a chemical reaction. Basically it is used to speed up or slow down a reaction. Moreover, a catalyst is used to change the rate of a chemical reaction. Its main functions are listed below.

A catalyst can lower the activation energy for a reaction by, changing the orientation of the participating molecules, for more collisions.

Hope it helps.
