National Eligibility Test abbreviated as NET is a national level exam conducted for determining eligibility either for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) programmes or both in Indian universities and colleges. UGC NET aims to ensure minimum standards of qualification and aptitude required for the entrants in teaching professions and research in 99 subjects. If you are interested in making your career in academics or want to pursue research, then it will be beneficial for you.

Dear Student,

Greetings,

Well UGC-NET is important if you want to choose your career in near future in academics.

In short, if you want to work in Research field or Lectureship then yes, clearing net exam is required but not required in other fields.

I hope this helps!

Hi, NET is usually taken by Arts and Sciences postgraduates who are interested in taking up jobs as college lecturers or interested in PhD/research. In case of an M.Tech holder, you do not need to qualify the NET to teach in engineering colleges. However, qualifying the NET might be a good addition to your profile and might make your CV more impressive. Hope this helps you.
